2025 programme
Full details are in our membership card, sent out in the December mailing each year. Our monthly meetings this year will be in Lecture Theatre 2, Herschel Building, Newcastle University, except for the 29 October public lecture, which will be in the Curtis Auditorium in the same building. Follow this link for a live map of the University Campus. The Herschel Building is off Percy Street, up steps or a ramp opposite the exit from Haymarket metro station.
- 11 June, 5.30 onwards, our Summer Social at Ballast Hills Burial Ground and Brinkburn Brewery. Includes a guided walk and presentation about the Burial Ground, a light buffet meal, and a performance from group Beneath This Ground. Closing date for bookings now past.
- 25 June, 6.00, A whistle-stop tour down the Stockton & Darlington Railway: stories and points of interest along the route of the 1825 main line, Eric Branse-Instone
- 30 July, 6.00, The Mercian Chronicles: a southern window on Early Medieval Northumbria, Max Adams.
- 27 August, 6.00, The design and construction of the Antonine Wall, Bill Hanson
- 24 September, 6.00, Weaving a Story: A North Northumberland Early-Middle Anglo-Saxon site with later links to the Viking Great Army, Jane Harrison
- 29 October, 6.00, Last line of defence? Excavating the Roman frontier at Magna fort, Rachel Frame. This is our Annual Public Lecture, in the Curtis Auditorium, Herschel Building, Newcastle University,
- 26 November, 6.00, New Shildon: an exploration of a pioneering railway town fuelled by coal, Marcus Jecock and Lucy Jessop.
There will also be walks, outings, and at least one informal research seminar; details will be included here once announced.

- 1 Feb, 9.30-1.00, Postgraduate Research Conference, intended as the first in a series of annual events, bringing together new work on the history and archaeology of North East England. Keeton-Lomas Lecture Theatre, Armstrong Building, Newcastle University.

- 30 April, The Ghosts of Newcastle Gaol: Bringing a Victorian Prison Back to Life, Shane McCorristine and Patrick Low. This was also our Annual General Meeting. Follow this link for the Zoom recording.
- 28 May, Carpathia - the Tyne-built ship which rescued the Titanic survivors, Ken Smith. The scheduled talk by Katie Liddane, Anglo-Scottish Spiritual and Material Economies in the 1649-50 Newcastle Witch Hunt, was cancelled owing to unforeseen circumstances.
