Old Newcastle Project

This is a major Heritage Lottery Fund-financed project to create an accessible, heritage-led education and interpretation centre in our old headquarters, the Black Gate, to create a new interpretation package for the Castle Keep, and to link these two parts of Newcastle Castle to its medieval neighbour St. Nicholas Cathedral. The aim is to provide a heritage asset that will explain the history of the City and its inhabitants.

For details of what the project involves, follow this link to the Old Newcastle website. A major part of it is the addition of a lift to the side of the Black Gate, making it a fully-accessible visitor centre. It is scheduled for completion in summer 2014. For photos and progress reports, see the Project's Facebook page.
