In the Name of God Amen the Six & Twentieth Day of May in ye
year of our Lord one thousand six Hundred Ninety & Eight I Joseph Oxley of
Hexham in ye County of Northumberland Weaver being sick in Body but of
sound & perfect memory praise be to God for it Doe make this my last
Will & Testament in manner & forme following Imp I commend my Soule
into the hands of Almighty God my Creator Hoping by ye meritts Death &
passion of my only Saviour & Redeem Jesus Christ to obtaine pardon and
remission of all my sins & to inherite eternall life & Doe give my body
to ye Earth to be buried in such decent manner & forme as by my
Executrix hereafter named shall be thought fitt & convenient & Doe
Dispose of my Worldly Estate as followeth First I will yt my Debts & funeral
Expenses be payd & Discharged Item I give & Devise & bequeath unto my
Dear & loving wife Clarey Oxley her heires & Ass forever All that my
thatched House wth A Barne & Kilne & Curtilage or Garth thereunto
adjoyning scituate standing lying & being in Hexham aforesd in A
certaine street called Hencoates boundering upon ye house of Wm Ollivant
the Eld on ye East the House of Wm. Haverick on ye West ye Kings high
Street on ye North & ye Gapprigg on ye south Item I give & bequeath unto
John Oxley Eldest son of Tho: Oxley late of Hexham in ye County of
Northumberland Weaver Decd ye sume of Three pounds of lawfull English
next
money as a legacy to be payd by my Executrix wthin one month after
his Terme of Apprentiship shall be expired Item I give & bequeath
unto John Jefferson ye Son of John Jefferson of Hexham in the
County of Northumbland shoemaker the sume of Tenn shillings of
lawfull English money As A legacy to be payd by my Executrix wthin
Twelve month next after my Death Item All the rest of my goods
and Chattells moveable & immoveable reall & personall I give & Devise
& bequeath to my Dear & loving wife Clarey Oxley wo: I Doe hereby
constitute nominate & appoint Sole executrix of this my last Will &
Testamt & I Doe hereby revoke & Disanull & make voyd All former &
other Wills by me formly made In Witnesse whereof I have to this
my last will & Testamt: sett my hand & seale the Day & Year first
above written Signed Sealed published & Declared to be ye last Will
& Testamt of ye sd Joseph Oxley in ye psence of Us Joseph Cooke Wm Correy
