Your Petr furthr Sheweth That from the Injury which the Bed of
said
the River has sustained by the Flood and the probable future Effects which
frequently happening in this River
great Floods may have too clearly manifested by the late Misfortune, your
where the Bridge erected by yr Petr stood
Petr fears that if a Bridge shod be Built in the same place it must share
even if in erecting it what
the same Fate Unless a much larger Sum of Money shod be expended than
possibly
the late Bridge cost and tho’ your Petr may by Building it according to
the former plan be enabled to leave it at the End of Seven years to all
Building sd
Appearance a perfect Bridge and by that Means fulfill his Engagement
substantially
yet the Good of the public will not thereby be answered in as much as
yr Petitioner is well informed that such stand any considerable time
the Bridge cannot reasonably be expected to have any long duration
Your Petr furthr sheweth That the justices for the sd County are
perfectly satisfied that your Petr executed his Undertaking in the most
compleat
perfect and exact manner and that the misfortune which happened was
either occasioned by the natural Insufficiency of the Foundation to admit of
{any bridge standing thereon built the sd
