The nature of Snow is like that
of a Sponge it drinks in all
the falling water till it is perfectly
saturated without letting any of it
go-and after it is perfectly
saturated it breaks forth all together
like a Reservoir – both Rain &
Snow at once – This likewise aided
by the Rain continuing to fall
produced so great & sudden a
Torrent that according to the
Marks upon the Bridge to which
the water rose according to Mr
Donkin’s Evidence there would be
a fall of no less than five feet
perpendicular between the Upper
Side
