Pilgrimages of Hadrian's Wall take place every ten years, and are week-long events organised by ourselves in conjunction with the Cumberland and Westmorland Archaeological and Antiquarian Society. 

The organising committee are progressing well with the planning of the 2029 Pilgrimage, to take place on  21-29 July 2029. This year we travel from west to east. The main base in Carlisle will be the Crown and Mitre Hotel and in Newcastle the Royal Station Hotel:. The handbook for the Pilgrimage is in the process of being edited by Tony Wilmott and Beccy Jones..  It will come as no surprise to society members that the costs are higher than in 2019. We are working to keep costs as low as possible but it is likely that the full cost of attendance, including Carlisle and Newcastle accommodation, will be about £1200, less for those who stay at home for all or part of the week. This compares well with a week-long history study tour. There will be an option of booking without hotel accommodation.

Members of the two societies may register interest in booking for the Pilgrimage now at:  HWPilgrimage2029@gmail.com. This initial registration list will be used to help plan accommodation needs and it would be useful at this stage if you can tell us what accommodation you might need (e.g single room, twin room, double etc.). The full booking details with all costs will be sent out closer to the Pilgrimage.
