Newcastle Dec. 31. 1771. Sir, I have received your Letter, by which I find the Gentlemen who met at Hexham have done me the honor to appoint me one of the Committee for the distribution of the Charity col- lected for the relief of the Sufferers by the late Inundation. Had I known of the appointment in time, I should most certainly have either attended the first meeting of the Committee, or sent my reasons for being absent. I must now beg the favor of You Sir, to give my most respectful compliments to my Brethren of the Committee, & to acquaint them that I have left Stamfordham for the winter, and that the distance between this place and Hexham would make it exceedingly inconve- nient, upon several accounts, for me to attend at
