Page 45, Will, Phillip Jefferson, 22 December 1699, p 1

In the Name of God Amen I Phillip Jefferson of Hexham in
ye County of Northumberland Tanner being weake and infirme of
body but of Sound & perfect memory praised be God for it do make
& ordaine this my last Will & Testament in manner & forme
following (that is to say) Imp I Recomend my Soule into ye hands
of Almighty God my Creat hopeing Assuredly through ye meritts
Death and passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour & Redeemer to obtaine
full & free pardon of all my Sinns and to inheritt eternall life &
my Body I give to ye earth from whence it came to be buried in
Such decent and Christian manner as by my Executrix hereafter
named shall be thought fitt & convenient And as for such
worldly Estate as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon
me I give & despose thereof as followeth Whereas at ye last
Head Court held for ye Regality & Manno*of Hexham the Four &
Twentieth day of October last I have surrendred according to
ye Custome of ye said Manno Three Acrees of Arrable land or
meadow Ground be it more or less together wth A House & other App
to ye same belonging lyeing in ye West Feilds of Hexham aforesaid
& comonly call’d Mirry Leazes between ye lands late Willi:m Johnstons
on ye West the lands called Lady close on ye East Wynes well burne on
ye South and ye Kings high way on ye North to Thomas Jefferson &
John Robson of Hexham aforesaid Shooemakers their heires and
Assignes to stand seized to such uses intents & purposes as I
by my last Will & Testamt shall Order Nominate & appointe as in
& by ye said surrender Relacon being thereunto had it doth and
may more at large appear Now my Will & pleasure is And I
doe hereby order & appointe That ye sd Thomas Jefferson and
John Robson & yr* heires shall Stand seized of ye premisses in ye
said surrender menconed with all & singular their Rights members
& Apps to ye use and behoofe* of my wife Barbara Jefferson for
and so long as she remains my Widdow and continues unmarried
and from & after such time as she shall be married to another
Husband that yn ye said Thomas Jefferson & John Robson and
yr* heires shall Stand seized of ye abovemenconed premisses with
their Apps to ye use & behoofe of my second sonn, Phillip Jefferson
his Heires and Assignes upon Condicon that my said sonne
Phillip Jefferson & his Heires or Assignes shall pay unto my Daughter
Jane Jefferson the sume of Fifteen pounds of lawfull English
money (that is to say) Five pounds parte thereof within Twelve
months next after that my said sonn shall enter upon & enjoy ye
said premisses (if my said Daughter Jane Shall be then liveing)
Five pounds other part thereof within Twelve months
next after, & ye other Five pounds residue thereof within
Twelve months then next after. Item I give devise & bequeath
unto my said wife Barbara All that my Freehold Burgage
or Thatched house with ye Apps in Gillygate now in the
possession of Peter Orde and John Corner & formerly belong
-ing to Thomas Hutchinson Decd & also All that my Freehold
