Page 20, Will, John Leadbitter, 30 March 1696

In the Name of God Amen I John Leadbitter of Hexham
in ye County of Northumberland Tanner being sick in body but
of sound & perfect Mind & memory & Judgement praised be to
God Doe make this my last Will & Testamt in manner & forme
following (yt is to say) First I recomend my soule in to the
hands of Almighty God my makeer* hoping assuredly through ye
meritts of Jesus Christ my only Saviour & Redeem to be made
partaker of eternall happiness & my body to ye earth to be buried
according to ye Discrecon of my Executrix herein after named as
Item as for yand concerning ye Disposition of my Estate both
reall & personall to pserve Love & Kindness amongst my wife
and Children & for making provision for each & every of them &
payment of my just Debts and yt ye same may goe to such uses
intents & purposes I Doe give Devise & bequeath ye same in such
sort manner & forme & to such uses intents & purposes as are
herein after menconed (vizt) whereas I have this psent Day
of the Date hereof before ye sealing & Executing of these psents
surrendred into ye hands of ye Lord of the Mann of Hexham aforesd
by ye hands of ye Baliffe & two Coppyholds according to ye custome of
the sd Mannour there anciently used All that my Burgage* with
ye
a garden & other Apps to ye same adjoyning & belonging scituate*
& being in ye Town of Hexham in A street there called Gillygate
& boundering between ye Burgage* of Wm Leadbitter on ye south & the
lands of John Leadbitter & ye lands late late Wm Dickinsons on
the West the lands late John Smiths on ye north & ye Kings high
street on ye East together wth ye revercon & revercons remainder
& remainds thereof & of every part & parcell thereof And All
the Freehold Estate right title & Intest Claime & Demand
whatsoever wch I the said John Leadbitter my heires Exs Adms
of
have can or ought to have in & to ye pmisses aforesd of the Yearly
Rent of Five shillings & Threepence to ye Use & behoofe* of
John Carr of Hexham aforesd Gent his heires & Ass forever
according to ye Custome of ye sd Mannour to & for such uses intents
& purposes as I by my last Will & Testamt shall nominate ordaine
& appoint Now my Will is & I Doe hereby Order & appoint that the sd
John Carr shall sell ye sd Burgage & Garden wth all & singul ye Apps
abovemenconed to ye best advantage & ye over plus of the money
raised by ye sale of ye same (from & after ye sume of Fifty pounds
due to the said John Carr for wch he hath a former surrender of ye
sd Burgage & other ye pmisses wth ye Apps with Interest for ye same
is satisfyed & Payd) I Do hereby give & bequeath unto my Three
Younger sonns Cuth Leadbitter Jo Leadbitter & Ra Leadbitter
to be equally Divided amongst them And if any of my sd sonns
shall happen to Dye before they attaine the Age of one & Twenty
Years then my Will further is that such share & part of the
over plus of ye sd money as becomes or may be due to the party
or partys dying shall come to my other ??? sonn or sons of ye
sd Three Younger sons surviveing as abovesd And All the Rest of
my goods & Chattels moveable & immoveable I give & bequeath
unto my loveing wife Issabell whom I Doe herby noiate &
appoint sole Executrix of this my last Will & Testament And I
Doe hereby revoke all former & other Wills & Testamts by me
made either by word or writing In Witnesse whereof I have
hereunto sett my hand & seale this Thirtieth Day of March Ao*
